Assignment 1 Write Up

In this assignment, I decided to use the photos and images from last week as a experiment of my research project. Focusing only on the right hand melody and beats of Chopin's Nocturne No. 9 Op1, I rotated and adjusted the opacity of the photos in attempt to represent this piece in a visual way. I chose to use photos of glass, vase, lace and petals to represent his fragile and delicacy. In addition, I have also used candle light to represent the loneliness in his music. At then end of the movie, I used photo of water bubbles and concrete in contrast to his delicacy in art and his masculine nature.

This assignment is directly related to my research project as I created this as a test to see if my idea would actually work as a final, more developed, stay-alone piece.

Your movie was definately one of the cleaner one's that I looked at. It seem's to be very refined and well planned! If I did not already know your concept for the course, then I would probably be a bit confused as to what it was by watching your movie. Maybe you could find a way to make that a little clearer. Good work, though!

The particular scene with the flower petals that form in around the center of the flower is more interesting to me than the others because it is a little less literal, and more abstract. The floating petals are nice in that scene too. Some of the shots could maybe be more dynamic, or they could be pushed farther. I think the candle scene is heading in right direction.

I can tell that the imagery used in this piece has musical influnce. The way in which you have assembled each element as it gracefully appears upon the screen is very elegant. I like the flower pedals, candle, & lace!!!!

- Candles should fade out, much like the one on the bottom right hand side.

- Group dissolve on the flower overlaps other petals. Perhaps replace the connected images with a solid, and then dissolve.

- Avoid Hard edge images, such as the cut candles. Suggest you make more flames, just like the center one.

- Good imagery, however make transitions more fluid.

I honestly had no idea what the movie was supposed to be referring to, but thats ok. I like the simplicity of it though you need to push things a bit more, take your work to the next level somehow. Make it more dynamic.

i think the sources in your images do examine the senses.....i like the the handling of the flower and petals more than the rest of the images.
